child and adolescent psychiatrist, Marisa Mendel MD

ABOUT MARISA MENDEL, M.D.

Dr. Mendel is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.
This means she is a medical doctor who has completed a four year bachelors degree, four years of medical school, and five to six additional years of an adult psychiatry residency and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship.

With Nurse Practitioners and Psychologists gaining independent prescribing rights in many states, it can be confusing to navigate and understand what roll each clinician plays.   Patients often ask what the difference is between a Psychiatrist and a Nurse Practitioner (NP, PMHNP or DNP).  While there are many skilled clinicians in every field, Medical Doctors are the only doctors that have attended Medical School.   If you click on the button below, you will find a good visual representation of the amount of post-graduate full-time education and training Psychiatrists receive prior to practicing independently.  The two navy bars farthest to the right are the additional years of training Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists receive beyond their Adult Psychiatry Residency.
